Freshers!
Moving away to University can be scary especially if you have never lived away from family before. So we are aiming to give you some tips on how to survive uni life but most of all how to survive ABER LIFE!!!
If you don't have time to read all of the articles, read over these bullet points, it's a 5 minutes crash course!
- Get to know the people in your halls - you are gonna be living with these people for at least 8 months. You can't get on with everybody but you have to make the effort with your flatmates - it just makes life easier!
- Be tolerant of people - Everyone has different ways of doing things so don't get angry. Don't make judgements and assumsions based on stereotypes or what other people say - get to know someone and decide for yourself.
- If you come to University knowing no one - Join a Club! The Uni has over 50 societies and lots of sport teams - and it doesn't matter if you are an expert or if you just want to have some fun - these are a guaranteed way of making friends.
- No Doubt you'll be up for partying in freshers week and making sure you have a good time is the up most importance but Be Careful and Know your Limits - you don't want your memories of freshers to be blurry or non-existent. www.drinkaware.co.uk
- During Freshers you may meet someone you like, and that likes you back - you might get jiggy with it, but remember, BE SAFE, WEAR A CONDOM.
- Aberystwyth is in a very scenic location and when the tide is out, the beach is just another great place to hang out with your friends - but Don't Forget Your Sun Cream because the sea breeze cools down the sun but doesn't make it go away.
- We all get drunk and we all come up with stupid ideas but the STUPIDIEST idea would be to go swimming under the influence of alcohol. The tide is powerful and many students have lost their lives. Don't Drink and Dive.
- Attend the Fresher’s Fayre, get all your freebies and sign up with any clubs or societies you might be interested in. Sieve through the huge number of leaflets you will have collected and decide which societies are for you , go along to their introduction meetings, meet lots of new people and sign up to your favourite few. Remember not to over commit yourself - and visit the Bay Radio stand during freshers too!
